The aim of this initiative is to uncover the hidden heritage of Islam & Muslims in Europe. Europe and the Islamicate have a long history, often with Europe defining itself based on the perceived other, a history which is often viewed through the lens of conflict and conquest. Christendom defined itself against the Islamicate, neglecting how Islam and Muslims have contributed the modern European civilisation we see today. The narratives of the other continues today, often viewing Islam as alien, reinforcing the clash of civilisations. Muslims are equally viewed as the other, foreigners who don't belong, invaders and migrants when in reality we are the builders of the foundation European civilisation. Europe is all too often described as Greco-Roman or Judeo-Christian, the Islam and Muslim contribution has been airbrushed out, all too often whitewashed, ignored, forgotten or hidden away in academia.
